Passion Knows No Bounds
The pursuit for passion allows one a higher degree of potential, increased motivation and a higher capacity for further innovation and creativity. At some point in life everyone questions their decisions and is faced with a choice, are they content or do they want to strive for more. Further education forces students to overcome internal inconsistencies enforcing both self, social and academic skill development. A battle of the minds, the wills and the academic skills. Finding a balance between your studies, social life and self-care is a challenge. Whether it be sport, dance, writing or nature many students pursue journalism to express their passion as it’s a great forum to combine your passions and communicate your own opinion in an innovative and creative way.
Avid reader and literature enthusiast Olivia Gee,18 undertook a Journalism degree to pursue her dream career as a investigative journalist. Gee articulates:
“I think I’m passionate about Journalism…when it comes to actually writing and reporting, and when I watch journalists in the field, I feel passionate. There’s something really satisfying about writing a colourful, informative piece of investigative writing.”
Focused and determined student Jasmin Macey,18 attempts to channel her passion towards her studies undertaking a degree in Communication and Media Studies. Striving to be a Magazine Journalist which Macey hopes will have the flexibility of focus that she desires. Following her passion for writing, yoga, dance, the beach and snow sports this flexible focus should allow her to express her wide range of passions.
Moral and compassionate Chantelle Mayo, 18 has the courage to stand up for what she believes in, leading her to pursue a career as a Broadcast Reporter. As a passionate debater with a vivid interest in negative news pieces and their impact upon other, her compassionate natures fuels her further research into the affected parties story.
Mayo admits that the level of balance within her university lifestyle “is still fluctuating as I try to figure out how to handle it all”. Fuelling her career with a humanitarian focus on global international issues, inspired by her love for verbal communication skills and its impact upon audiences. Her favourite media facet is WIN TV today show starring Broadcast Journalist role model Lisa Wilkinson. Her unwavering passion has often heaped her overcome concentration restraints that arise with universities sometimes overwhelming study requirements.
Not your typical passionate student Amelia Murphy, 18 confesses that although from young age she had a strong interest in singing she hasn’t had many passionate moments. Unfortunately Murphy admits after receiving negativity she has often lost interest in her hobbies and other areas. Without a ever present motivating passion Murphy’s blaise attitude has enabled her to face challenges in removed and productive manner. Although Murphy hopes to become more efficient, prioritising her passion for photography without sacrificing her grades. Currently her studies seem to be dominating her life but she remains confident that she will be able to find more of a balance in the future.
With career aspirations to be a Fashion and Entertainment Journalist Murphy is eager to incorporate her own photographs using them to enhance her articles, enlivening her passion for Journalism. Murphy is inspired by authentic journalist Angela Bishop, admiring her sincerity engages and personalises her articles. Considering EdStart grant scholar Murphy “had high hopes for uni” her demotivation: “they’re all completely crushed” was unexpected. These girls varying experiences demonstrate the benefits to finding your passion and the downfalls to lacking passion for your studies. Most students find that they enjoy and perform better in areas where they are more passionate.
